Nefyn (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈneːvɨn]) is a small town and community on the north west coast of the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales. Historically in Caernarfonshire, it has a population of 2,602.[1] Nefyn is popular with visitors for its sandy beach, and has one substantial hotel. Welsh is the first language of almost 73% of its inhabitants.[citation needed] The A497 road terminates in the town centre. The community includes Edern and Morfa Nefyn.
Gwynedd is an area in north-west Wales, named after the old Kingdom of Gwynedd. As a local government area, it is the second biggest in Wales in terms of geographical area and also one of the most sparsely populated. A majority of the population are Welsh-speaking. The name Gwynedd is also used for a preserved county, covering the two local government areas of Gwynedd and the Isle of Anglesey. Culturally and historically, the name can also be used for most of North Wales (for instance, the area covered by the Gwynedd Constabulary), roughly corresponding to the territory of the Kingdom of Gwynedd at its greatest extent.
